Surrender 04:23
As I’m listening to your tape The images pass before my eyes: The words were learned yet not explained And trust thrice has been betrayed. You have created a place Where thoughts and doings got entwined… And that December I was Half out of my mind. It comes again now, Awaken with your notes, The same feelings, Gloomy, dark and old. A little child was Loved but heartily sole, By years it's clear Life was a stroll Heart had a chasm, heart had a bridge, Heart held forgiveness and I’ve lost the last grain of it. It seems that lights shine dimer, Get bleak and wince. And here is what my life is: A bird shot on the wing. In the visions of a dark night, At dawn of youth the sorrow lies. And this December I prayed To remain insane. I know here is a blessed place Where I could cry and pray! As it goes from faraway, Let it always rain…

Out of the lights to where the stream runs laughing by, I run to all I dreamed, away from A place where even flowers bore. Due to the pain it seemed that I would not live again. Here, where the grass is my bed, I put a spell on you, who’s living in my head. Beyond the dark into a dream, From feelings broken and hopes dead, I look for power lost. Once I had My thoughts innocent and clean. Both rues and prays can’t wipe all my tears away! Tunes silent and delight Make me dancing with the merciful night. CH: Counted all days we walked along! But here I sing like a sky lark. I rise to heaven with this song Whirling and dancing in the dark. Smiling, though forlorn, wildered over many thorns, Now I’m but a child of air, Sound in a wind flying everywhere Killed and reviled, cheated as confiding child, Now I’m but a cloud of dread, Bleeding rain on your low-down criminal head. The love that made me shiver Turned up a cruel game! Once dream was weaved by a shade: You left me dead, drown in the river. Too late I realized: folly is an endless maze. Pure tunes now hold me tight, Make me dancing with the enchanting night. CH: Counted all days we walked along! But here I sing like a sky lark, I rise to heaven with this song, Whirling and dancing in the dark Counted days I walked in the dark! But here you’re singing last swan song. Revenged, I rise to heaven now Sparkling and dancing all alone. Here now piercing tunes take me aside, Make me dance, make me sing with the merciful night. Pure tunes now hold me tight, Make me sing, make me dance with the enchanting night.

One life song Hope and fall When all things burn You can lose control During that year Dream revived With a feeling of joy That found lost time Your lost time One life song Year of life Romance has gone Dawn again for one Promise Is your lifestyle Clearly enough That all have died For us died Your promise to me is only lifestyle Clearly enough that all for us died Wings want to fly, but way is unknown I want to understand what's waiting for Close your eyes and see me Close your eyes and hear me

When the entire city sleeps, There's not a light in the darkened buildings. All modern beauty turns to ruins. He feels Night’s cold kiss on his lips. As wishes smother around mad lace, He needs to breathe again some fresh air. And if the life he would be spared, He’ll sleep in a gentle Night’s embrace… He’s a Nightman. He used to live in vain his lifetime. He’s lovelorn. His wings are feeble, but it’d happened sometime, Before his heart was broken, His lover came and shоne so cute and bright. Oh, Nightman how could you Fell in this love with just a dreadful Night?! He wore his hat both home and streets And prayed for hours sitting at the fire. When going outdoors he rose much higher Above unquestioning obedience he lived. At least the time of full moon came, Night led our crazy man a pretty dance, And whispered him so sweet but stark nonsense… That man forgot about Moon’s ill fame. He stood gathering his breath On the empty bridge above the quiet river. In a merciful face of a Night he was a childish futile believer. Oh, Nightman, why’d you loved not a woman but the night, was it a fear? After the moon into the water he jumped… And broke to shivers.
6.
The passion dies from within, Mould of my grace fades away. And we could have chosen A different path of thoughts. Unreserved talks have no point, Between us there’s not a ray of truth , And nothing is sacred with us, Life tears to pieces our world. So I'm flying above the earth With the sounds of the storm. Despite the feelings inside, I prefer the original form Of the life I've buried inside. So I choose loneliness instead. It’s becoming so hard to endure, ‘Cause on you depends my mood. Beckoning – silence! I can hear your whisper, I feel as something sacred is born, But leaves keep falling down, And sky sends water. From day to day it’s getting worse and worse…
7.
Just for a Moment... You pass the way that you’ve found... Feel you Power... Impress yourself and look around... Let yourself be drowned in the Ocean of new experience and bright Emotions... With eyes shut you hear no Screams... Bring Astral Body to a City of Dreams
8.
I can’t confess... I’ve put in chains. Mask upon (my) face, (There’s) no way out from this place. Just last chance to change... ...change this choose. Can you explain me why I lose? I am not eager to defend myself, Fruitless are efforts to escape, I feel myself so bad. I bear this strangeness in my head At seventh night hope was denied. I've seen the light somewhere outside, when I have been under my skin. With teardrops and rain I meet my pain...again. This tunnel is dark, I cannot see. Somebody've marked this place And watching me… Just last chance to change... ...change this choose. Can you explain me why I lose? I am not eager to defend myself, Fruitless are efforts to escape, I feel myself so bad. I bear this strangeness in my head At seventh night hope was denied. I've seen the light somewhere outside, when I have been under my skin. With teardrops and rain I meet my pain...again

After mesmerizing us with their debut release Closed Room back in 2012, today we have Closed Room back in this very unique split with two other Belorussian bands that feature at least one member of Close Room in each of their lineups. With three tracks per band, we get a very diverse set of influences and very unique songs from all bands. Thanks to the heavy emphasis on atmosphere, this release is one that you will not forget so easily.
Opening the first part we have Closed Room and their suspenseful atmospheric/Trip Hop track “Surrender”. This song creates a very dense atmosphere that is nicely contrasted by Morena’s vocals and the ethereal keys. The best song in this release (and possibly the first few months of the year for us) is the uber catchy “Dancing in the Dark”. Featuring a very perky mood and highly addictive guitars notes and beats, this is one song that will never leave your head. Things get a bit heavier with their rendition of Angelo Badalamenti’s Laura Palmer Theme from Twin Peaks. The band made this track their own with eerie atmospherics and creepy vocals/samples.
Having a very tough act to follow; Lunacy delivers tracks four, five and six that provide a different dimension to this release. Featuring Stone and Morena from Closed Room, this band keeps more with their Amesoeurs influences of the past in the excellent “One Life Song”. Things go for a more indie-rock with some folk influences sound in the dramatic “Nightman”. With the best song of this band’s side of the split being “Sound of the Storm” we get a certain air of Xandria’s earlier material with heavy guitars and super catchy female vocals. This band is a nice separation of Closed Room’s experimental style and concentrates the more shoegaze-inspired side of things from the band members.
The heaviest track in this release comes under the same name of the band “La Ville des Rêves” which is the project/band of AN23. Here we definitely find out who has the heavier Metal influences as well as the experimental side of Closed Room. This track also features a very intense and hypnotic saxophone track that will instantly capture your attention. The dark trip-hop influences return with the disturbing “The Last Trip”. In this band’s songs the singing is done by another angelic singer under the name of Kathrine Meteora, which has a more firm and less unique voice than Morena, reminding us of Anneke van Giersbergen. This release closes with a very interesting cover of “Blue Jeans”, which is totally nailed by Katherine’s vocals, the heavy guitar riffs and the extra atmospheric elements that were thrown into the mix.
Overall, we are quite impressed with the vast amount of creative juices flowing from all band members of Closed Room. Each of their side project bands are very unique and engaging in their own way, and greatly complement their main band’s exploits. If you like dark music that is not afraid to go into trip-hop, indie rock, electronic, and even Metal directions… all at once, you should definitely check this split release out. Getting nine very high quality tracks is a luxury these days, so you can’t afford to miss “Triangular Cinema”.

‘Triangular Cinema’ is a split album with three bands from Belarus contributing their music. The first band to be presenting three songs is Closed Room. The alternative pop/rock with some trip hop influences sounds sweet and intriguing at the same time. The atmosphere and the voice of the singer fit the movie theme of the record perfectly. A feeling that is only strengthened because of a good instrumental cover of Angelo Badalamenti’s ‘Laura Palmer Theme’ (Twin Peaks). The next band to discover is called Lunacy. This band continues on the same track as Closed Room but sounds just a tad more towards pop and indie rock. Also in the songs of Lunacy the melancholic atmosphere is very good, even though the three songs just seem to babble on after a while. Finally it is La Ville Des Rêves’ turn to demonstrate their music. The first song, the self titled ‘La Ville Des Rêves’, is by far the best song on this split album. The instrumental, jazz-influenced, postrock song has a great haunting atmosphere, especially thanks to the saxophone that plays along in this track. It is also the first song in which you can hear heavier, almost metal drums. Second track ‘The Last Trip’ on the other hand is quite non-committal and they conclude with a fair cover of ‘Blue Jeans’ (Lana Del Rey), that stays quite close to the original.
The songs on this split have very little to do with metal, apart from a few small elements. The general feel of the album however is good. ‘Triangular Cinema’ offers a decent collection of songs from three talented bands from Belarus.

Všichni dohromady pak dali vzniknout téměř 50minutovému albu, na nějž přispěla každá kapela třemi písničkami, přičemž nejvíce času (lehce přes 20 minut) si uzmuli La ville des rêves a nejméně (lehce přes 12 minut) Lunacy.
Oproti tomu u La ville des rêves zase v případě "The Last Trip" o trochu víc převažuje ten trip-hop, zatímco "La ville des rêves" nabídne nejpropracovanější a žánrově nejotevřenější mozaiku, do níž promluví třeba i saxofon.

English summary:
3-way split "Triangular Cinema" is a quite interesting effort. All three bands - which are personally connected - offer music from more or less similar genres like trip-hop, alternative rock, post-rock, indie pop or even a hint of shoegaze so the whole record holds together which is of course positive. Unfortunately, it is not perfect from the beginning to the end and some moments sound a little naive. However, despite this, "Triangular Cinema" is still an appealing album because it contains really nice dreamy atmosphere which is able to hide some of those disadvantages. The contribution of all three bands is good but my own personal winners are La ville des rêves followed by Closed Room on the second place.

Ahogy említettem, a közös nevező a Closed Room tagsága, ugyanis a másik két zenekarnak is ezek a zenészek a tagjai, persze néhány más szereplővel együtt.
A sort természetesen a Closed Room nyitja, akik az utóbbi időben AN23 (gitár, programozás), Stone (gitár, basszusgitár, programozás), Morena (ének) felállásban alkotnak. Két saját számuk az előbb emlegetett eklektikusság jegyében, azonban a post black elemek teljes negligálásával, illetve az elektronikus témák megszaporodásával jellemezhető, az ábrándozós-depresszív Surrender különösen súlyos Morena mélyebb tónusú énekével, igazi experimentális dark szerzemény. Ehhez képest a Dancing in the Dark valóban táncolható, könnyed darab, a Laura Palmer témának (naná, hogy Twin Peaks) viszont annyira nem vágom az eredetijét, így maradjunk abban, hogy a mélyen búgó, drone hatásokat sem nélkülöző szerzemény akár saját számnak is elmenne.
A Stone (minden hangszer), Morena (ének) felállásban alkotó Lunacy duója kapcsán több helyen emlegették a korai Lacuna Coil hasonlatot, egyáltalán nem alaptalanul.
Az AN23 (gitár, programozás), Kathrine Meteora (női ének), Dmitry Soldatenko (szaxofon), G (basszusgitár) felállású kvartett zenéje talán a legnyomasztóbb, legelvontabb a három csapat közül. Nem olyan szokatlan megoldás már a szaxofon felbukkanása, de a kifejezetten harapós riffekkel együtt kifejezetten sajátos ízt ad a zenének, rögtön a kilenc percnél is hosszabb névadó helyére teszi a hallgatót. A komor, nyomasztó hangvétel a későbbiekben is megmarad, bár a The Last Trip hangszeres szempontból szellősebb téma, kevesebb gitárral és több elektronikával, Meteora teljesítménye pedig kolléganőjéhez hasonlóan szintén elismerésre méltó.

We are getting more and more used to reviewing releases that are musically distant from metal and also geographically far from the locations that usually host this kind of projects. Time for me to introduce to you an intriguing split release published by the Romanian label Valse Sinistre Productions, featuring an emerging Belarusian experimental trio called Closed Room and two side-projects of its members, namely Lunacy and La Ville Des Rêves. The physical release came out in December 2014 and it is the one we are reviewing here.
Closed Room had already explored many facets of atmospheric music with their eponymous LP debut in 2012 — including trip-hop, shoegaze, and post-metal — and "Triangular Cinema" is a great way of taking our first steps in such a diverse musical environment. The opener "Surrender" is an invitation to temporarily give up our disbelief and plunge into the ethereal atmospheres created by the Belarusian combo, with a dreamy and nostalgic tinge that sets the tone for what it is to come. "Dancing In The Dark" speeds things up a little bit and ventures into slightly more "poppish" realms, and an official video was shot for it as well. With "Laura Palmer Theme" Closed Room paid the debt due to David Lynch's conceptual world and its sounds, the closest thing to metal included by the trio on here.
As Lunacy sets foot on stage, we can immediately perceive a change of pace. The vocalist Morena enters revivalist post-punk territories with "One Life Song", further expanding the range of influences involved in the making of this compilation. Their third song "Sound Of The Storm" proceeds with a quasi-gothic rock melancholy, but I must admit that this is the project that gave me the most generic impression among these three.
Things change once again with La Ville Des Rêves, where Closed Room's musician AN23 is joined by the singer Katherine Meteora and we are welcomed by a speech that introduces the eponymous nine-minute experimental blackgaze epic (a bit out of place when compared to the rest of the compilation, but a solid track nonetheless). We know by now that this Belarusian group of musicians really enjoys playing around with different genres and vibes, and the following two songs are yet another proof of it, going as far as to cover Lana Del Rey's "Blue Jeans" at the end.
All in all, I can say that this split release is a condensed gallery of the experiences of all Closed Room's members, spanning from metal all the way to trip-hop and dream pop to name a few. The result is mostly enjoyable, although at times somewhat inconsistent, and will appeal to people interested in the trends of '90s underground music. There is very little metal in here, so don't expect to hear traces of it in every single song.
